According to Martino, Druschel will serve in the same role as an assistant pitching coach with the Mets. Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner is staying.
Last offseason, Carlos Mendoza moved from Yankees bench coach to manager of the Mets. He ended up having a special debut season at the helm in Queens, leading the Mets on a memorable run all the way to the National League Championship Series.
The Mets and Yankees are poised to be battle it out as the favorites in the Juan Soto sweepstakes this winter. Soto and agent Scott Boras are expected to meet with Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner and Boone within the next week or two. Mets owner Steve Cohen is also scheduled to meet with Soto and Boras soon.
